Congratulations to Rick Stanley and collaborators on a new pub in Proceedings of the Royal Society – this article tests multiple hypotheses designed to explain song complexity in suboscine birds. The work is extensive including >1280 species of birds and demonstrates the importance of social selection (e.g., territoriality), morphology (e.g., relative beak size), and habitat features (e.g., vegetation density) in driving song complexity. Rick contributed to this work as a master’s student. To read more go here.
